On Friday 27th of October 2023, the UHSussex Staff Brighton Pavilion Ice Skate took place for a second year running, and it was nothing short of spellbinding.

Staff from across the trust joined in for an unforgettable evening of laughter and merriment on the ice, along with their loved ones as guests.

My University Hospitals Sussex organised this event to express gratitude to the incredible, dedicated staff who go above and beyond, day and night to support patients receiving care at our seven hospitals across Sussex.

The setting for this event was the iconic Royal Pavilion Ice Rink in Brighton, known for its stunning backdrop of the historic Royal Pavilion. This charming rink, located in the heart of Brighton, added to the enchantment of the evening, creating a bespoke atmosphere that truly captured the UHSussex spirit.

Olympic gold medal-winning figure skater, Robin Cousins, graciously came along to open the rink for us on the evening with his sensational skating skills. Even more awe-inspiring was how humble and kind Robin was, happily posing with staff for photos and coaching nervous skaters on the ice. University Hospitals Sussex Chief Exec, George Findlay, also joined in on the fun, taking to the ice and adding to the sense of gratitude and celebration that this event embodies.

This event was a heartfelt “thank you” to UHSussex staff for their unwavering dedication and hard work. We wanted to show our appreciation for the long hours, the tireless commitment, and the sacrifices they make to support NHS healthcare in our local hospitals. They deserve recognition and this night was dedicated to them.

We’d like to give a massive thank you to our sponsor Morgan Sindall, whose support made this event possible for a second year running. Special thanks to Laine Ltd for generously gifting us the space at The Royal Pavilion Ice Rink in Brighton before the official public opening. And of course, we couldn’t have done it without our amazing UHSussex Trust volunteers.
