Covert Comedy returned to the Charmendean for the fifth time on Thursday 15th August. With its growing popularity, the event drew a full house, all eagerly awaiting the reveal of the comedians.

The night was hosted by Naomi Cooper, who effortlessly warmed up the crowd. She was thrilled to be part of the night and said: “I know the amazing work that all the staff do and all the amazing places that the money is going, so get yourself down to the next gig!

First up was Jacob Laing, a newcomer to the comedy scene. He captivated the audience with a surprising revelation—he’s actually a doctor! His boundless talents and charming charisma had the crowd in high spirits. Having recently used the maternity services in a local hospital, Jacob reflected on the comedy night and raising money for My Charity: “This is a great opportunity to give a little back, this is the biggest room I have ever played to and it was quite a lot of fun!

Next up was Sussex local, James Ellis, who seamlessly turned even the most mundane situations into comedic gold. The crowd erupted in laughter, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the night. His mum was recently treated by a local hospital and he was thrilled to be on the line-up: “It’s an absolutely fantastic cause; I’m happy to be here and had a lovely time.”

Finally, Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue took to the stage with their fast-paced, flawlessly executed show. Their unique, music-driven theatrics had the crowd doubled over with laughter at every turn. They felt that My Charity was very relevant to them as their late parents received care from the NHS and they said: “The NHS were wonderful and we felt it was time to give a little bit back and that’s what we have done tonight.”

Thanks to all the comedy acts and the generosity of the audience, all profits will go towards improving the lives of patients and staff.
