Your monthly gift will be used to sponsor research like that being conducted by Dr Stephen Robinson, a Clinical Oncology Registrar specialising in systemic therapy and radiation for cancer treatment. Dr Robinson is developing blood tests to help with diagnosis, subtyping and monitoring treatment for brain tumours. In his words:
“If a blood test can inform us about a person’s brain tumour, then we can refine our ability to provide a prognosis and decide on a treatment plan. It would be a significant step forward.”
If Dr Robinson’s research is successful, patients like Sussex motor mechanic and married father of two children Matthew – Matt– Daws would be diagnosed through a simple blood test.
“If they can check and screen and maybe detect things sooner, if I could have been picked up and didn’t have to go through my surgery, if they can do that, they will save the trauma and the stress of brain surgery because obviously it’s quite a procedure.”
