The Nature of Healthcare is a public art project by The Postman, in collaboration with My Charity.

It celebrates the powerful connection between healthcare, nature and patient wellbeing, as we build the new Sussex Cancer Centre. It reflects how natural environments and views can support healing, reduce stress and bring comfort to patients, families and staff.

The stunning artwork is now available for sale and each purchase raises funds for My Charity and directly contributes towards the new Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The Sussex Cancer Centre development is about creating spaces where people can feel calm, connected and cared for as expressed in this art, inspired by wildlife found in and around Sussex.

Art as a catalyst for recovery

The Nature of Healthcare initiative is rooted in the belief that the environment plays a critical role in the healing process. By bringing nature-inspired art into a medical setting, the project seeks to reduce patient anxiety and provide a sense of sanctuary. The mural serves as a vibrant antidote, celebrating Sussex’s native flora and fauna.

By bridging the gap between the clinical environment and the healing-power of the local landscape, the project uses recognisable natural imagery to help lower cortisol levels and reduce the psychological weight of treatment.

Brighton-based and famously anonymous, The Postman whose portfolio includes commissions for Noel Gallagher, and the Bob Marley Foundation bring their signature high energy style to the site.

“We want this project to inspire hope and connection for everyone who passes by. It’s
about creating a space where people feel seen and uplifted during some of their most
challenging moments.” said The Postman.

The artwork will remain in place throughout 2025 and 2026. Upon the project’s conclusion, the mural will be auctioned piece by piece.
