We are incredibly grateful for the vision and generosity of our Trust and Foundation partners, whose investment ensures the absolute best care is available right here in Sussex.
Through a vital partnership with the Dervia Foundation, My Charity was able to transform the birthing experience at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Together, we provided the essential funding for a new, state-of-the-art birthing pool. This significant investment didn’t just stop at equipment; it also created a true home-from-home environment, featuring relaxing LED lighting and integrated Bluetooth music speakers. This is the power of our foundations working alongside us, creating tangible, compassionate improvements when it matters most.
The impact
Rebecca Elms, Midwifery Matron, said:
“We are so pleased that more birthing people in the area are now able to consider a waterbirth as part of their plans. The state-of-the-art rooms opened in February 2025, and we’ve seen much interest and uptake. We’re deeply grateful for the Dervia Foundation’s support.”
Leah recently gave birth to her first baby, using the birthing pool in her delivery journey. The new mum shared:
“My labour was long and challenging, but the relief I felt when the time came to use the pool was incredible. I was relaxed, light and free to move around, which had been impossible before. It was amazing pain relief in a calming atmosphere. My mood was instantly lifted.”
Sam O’Mahoney, Interim Associate Director, at My Charity added:
“The Dervia Foundation is making a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people in Brighton. It’s been a pleasure collaborating with them, and we’re excited about continuing our work together on future projects.”
